Globsyn Business School Management Conference 2015

Theme

Business and Sustainable Development

Conference Date

12th May, 2017 (Friday)

Business through value creation keeps the wheel of the society running. It creates goods and services for consumption through which life and society is sustained. Overall growth of the society is linked to the growth in business. However, off late growth and development is not viewed as synonymous and it is being argued that it is the development which matters and not just growth. Development happens when all the stakeholders in the ecosystems prospers. Business, as a part of the overall ecosystem, draws input from, processes these inputs to produce output and places these output into the ecosystem. In its pursuit for growth if it harms the ecosystem in the process then it may create growth but not bring in development. Moreover, by impairing the society and environment during its course of operation, business will hurt its long term viability. Therefore, for business to be sustainable, the emphasis should shift from growth to development of all its stakeholders.
