Career Lessons and Summer Internship at BCPL
On 23rd of May I started my summer internship in HR at India’s oldest pharmaceutical company Bengal Chemical & Pharmaceutical Ltd. (BCPL), under the guidance of Mr. Tapas Banerjee, DY. Manager (HR). The working environment was absolutely comfortable. At the beginning there was not much to do but later there a lot of work to keep me busy through out the day. Whenever I faced any problem my guide helped me to overcome it and every day was a new learning experience for me about the ‘Selection and Recruitment’ process of the company.
After joining the company there was recruitment of some employees, so I had a lot of data entry work to do. I learned how scrutiny is done as well as keeping all records of each and every employee. Mr. Banerjee told me that the work of HR is not so easy. An HR has to keep records of all old files because during a board meeting any file could be required. Within a short span of time, my work received a lot of appreciation and I was asked to visit the Maniktala factory for 3 days, so as to get an experience of the working process there.
I was really glad to grab this opportunity because I was to be visiting a factory for the first time in my life. At the factory I was guided by Mr. Subrata Saha (HR) and he showed me around and explained to me in detail about the various HR related work. He gave me certain files for my reference work. Then, on my last day at office Mr. Saha blessed me and wished me to have a bright future and good placement. I was really pleased!
Overall, my summer internship days went really well. I enjoyed the corporate environment. I sincerely thank Globsyn Business School and our faculty, Dr. Debaprasad Chattopadhyay, whom we fondly call DPC sir, who was my SIP mentor to be there by my side throughout this process. DPC sir was also pleased to hear about my good work, when he later visited BCPL. I felt lucky to be an intern and get to do my SIP at such a good company. The days I spent there was an experience I will never be able to forget.
