Women’s Empowerment implies the creation of an environment for women where they can initiate decisions of their own for their respective personal benefits as well as for the society. It results in increased and improved social, economic, political and legal strength of women to ensure their rights in society. These could range from women living their life with a sense of respect, dignity and self-worth, with full control of their life at their home and workplace, get equal opportunities for education and employment without any gender bias and avail safe and comfortable working environment. Empowerment of women across all sections of society benefits the under-employed and unemployed for the overall development of society and the nation.

This Seminar, to be addressed by women achievers who have been able to rise above their gender, has been designed for corporate executives, researchers in the subject and concerned individuals for an appreciation of the issues involved.

Keynote Speaker: Dr. (Prof.) Malabika Sarkar, Principal Advisor, Ashoka University, and former Vice Chancellor of Presidency University, Kolkata.

  • Session-1: “Women and girl education is the first step towards empowerment”
    Speaker: Ms. Jayashree Mohanka, CEO and Director of Electro Zavod India; formerly Vice President Marketing at Eveready Industries and IIM Calcutta alumnus.
  • Session-2: “Sexual harassment in the workplace”
    Speaker: Ms. Suchitra Guha, alumnus of XLRI, Jamshedpur and formerly head of the HR/IR function at TATA Steel.
  • Session-3: “Why do we have too few women leaders?”
    Speaker: Dr. Chandrima Banerjee, Director and co-Founder of Unigrow Solutions Private Limited, a consulting company in the area of HR, Technology & Supply Chain Solutions.
  • Session-4: “Women’s entrepreneurship – Myth or Reality”
    Speaker: Mrs Vinita Bajoria, Harvard Business School alumnus and presently Senior VP (Commercial) at Titagarh Wagons.
