The Academic Council of Globsyn Business School is one of the four pillars of the academic ecosystem of the B-School.

Dr. Sharmistha Banerjee 

Chairperson, Academic Council, GBS; Professor & Head, Department of Business Management, University of Calcutta

Dr. Sharmistha Banerjee is a Professor in the Department of Business Management at the University of Calcutta. She previously served as the Head of the Department and held key roles such as Deputy Director and Coordinator of various programs. She has also been a member of several Governing Bodies. Currently, she is a Research Advisory Committee member, Subject Matter Expert, Selection Committee member, and Governing Body member of multiple management institutes and universities across and beyond West Bengal.

Dr. Banerjee was the Visiting Professor at Graduate School of East Asian Studies, Yamaguchi University, SolBridge International School of Business, Woosong University, Daejeon, South Korea and BRAC Business School, BRAC University, Dhaka, Bangladesh. She was a Global Links Scholar, USA Department of State for Global Women’s Issues, Rollins College & Tupperware Brands Corporation and a Fulbright Scholar in Residence, Moreno Valley College, California, and College of Business, Department of Management, Bloomsburg University, Pennsylvania, USA. Dr. Banerjee was the resource person of the Workshop on Field Research on Violence against Children in Kenya, in Nairobi and Mombasa, conducted by IREWOC, University of Amsterdam, and Plan Kenya. Her research areas include Small Business Management. Microfinance, Entrepreneurship, Social Entrepreneurship, Human Resource Management, and Women Empowerment.

Dr. Ramaswamy Nandagopal

Director General, Sree Saraswathi Thiagaraja College, Pollachi, Tamil Nadu; Former President, AIMS

Prof. R. Nandagopal is presently the Director General of Sree Saraswathi Thyagaraja College, Polachi, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India. He was the former Director of PSG Institute of Management, Coimbatore, and Xavier Institute of Management and Entrepreneurship (XIME), Kochi. He has over four decades of academic experience serving in various capacities at leading institutions like the Institute of Public Enterprise, Hyderabad, and Loyola College, Madras. He has organized a number of Executive Development Programs for senior and middle-level managers and done consultancy work in his chosen domain. He has received Teaching Excellence Award from Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programmes (ACBSP), and he is also a fellow of member of All India Management Association (AIMSA). He was awarded as Best Business School Director by Association of Indian Management Scholars and the Association of Indian Management Schools.

Prof. Nandagopal is the founder member of ABBS and has held leadership positions in national and regional organisations that include AIMS, AIMS, CII, ICC, CMA, and Productivity Council.  He is presently on the Accreditation Governance Board of ACBSP, CBSP for six years, and Former President of the South Asian Council of ABSP for five years.

He received his Ph.D in Finance in 1985 from the University of Madras, M.Com and M.Phil from the University of Madras, MBA from Madurai Kamaraj University, and did an advanced management programme from the Department of Management Science, University of Leeds, United Kingdom.

Prof. Nandagopal has published more than 100 research articles, authored 6 books and edited more than 15 books, apart from guiding twenty-four Ph.D scholars. His area of expertise is Financial Management, Restructuring of Organizations, and General Management.

Ms. Suchitra Guha

Ex-Head, HR & IR, Tata Steel

An Alumnus of XLRI, Jamshedpur, and St. Xavier’s College, Ranchi Ms. Suchitra Guha is a Human Resource subject matter expert with over four decades of experience in the full spectrum of HR and IR functions of an enterprise. She is the Former Head, HR/IR Commercial, Tata Steel Limited, and played a crucial role in Tata Steel’s Internal transformation journey and its subsequent globalization. Currently, she provides independent advisory and consultancy services to both profit and not for profit organizations and is an external HR advisor to the C-suite of Tata NYK, Singapore.

Mr. Saibal Chatterjee

Chairman and Managing Director, Lokenath Chatterjee & Sons Pvt. Ltd.

Mr. Saibal Chatterjee is the Chairman and Managing Director of his own business, Lokenath Chatterjee & Sons (Precision Tools) Pvt. Ltd., the company founded by his father in 1964. Mr. Chatterjee literally grew up with the company, working with his father during spare time right from his early school and college days. This helped him develop a keen interest in the technical as well as all other aspects of the business. Today, Mr. Chatterjee’s company has a global presence, with customers and agents all over Europe, the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa. His company exports 90% of its production, and concentrates on research and development in order to keep pace with the rapid changes in modern technology. He has a licensing agreement with a reputed company in Switzerland. In the USA, his company does private branding for two leading Machine Tool manufacturers based in Idaho and Chicago.

Apart from his work, Mr. Chatterjee enjoys a serious hobby of teaching, especially in the evening and after office hours. What started as a hobby about five years ago is almost a second profession for him today. He is now a visiting professor for International Business at IISWBM, Kolkata, and also teaches Global Marketing for the MBA program at the Bengal Engineering College & Science University, Shibpur. Internationally, he has lectured at the University of Lowell in Boston, USA in 2004 and at the International Business School, University of Arnem in Holland in 2007. He loves teaching and sharing his work and travel experiences with his students. What makes Mr. Chatterjee an interesting person is that he feels that both his profession and his hobby provide him with that missing link between the academic and corporate styles of Management.

Mr. T. V. S. Shenoy

Executive in Charge, Bearings Division, Tata Steel Ltd.

Mr. T. V. S. Shenoy, based out of Kolkata, is presently the Chief Commercial Officer of the Long Products Division, Tata Steel.

As an MBA and engineer, he joined Tata Steel from NIT Rourkela campus in 1992, and has worked in various SBUs of Tata Steel – The Mines Division, The Tubes SBU, Agrico and Retail Initiatives (Steel Junction), the Ferro Alloys and Minerals Division, and the New Materials Business. Prior to this, he was the Chief of the New Materials Business at Tata Steel.

With nearly three decades of experience in various functions in Tata Steel – Operations, Channel Sales, B2B Sales, B2C Sales, Domestic and International Sales, he has worked pan India in cities like Jamshedpur, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Delhi, and now in Kolkata. He has also headed the marketing functions and handled the brands of Tata Pipes, Tata Structura, Tata Agrico, Steel Junction, and Tata Silcomag.

Mr. Shenoy also serves the President of the Calcutta Management Association (CMA). Outside his professional commitments, he enjoys travelling and writing and has a keen interest in photography.

Mr. Anil Kumar Garg

CEO, Maharishi Dayanand Education Trust; Former Head, IT & Finance, ITC Limited

Mr. Anil Kumar Garg is an MBA in Finance and Systems from Rutgers University, USA, and has recently retired from ITC Limited, having held various positions in his career spanning over 35 years. He retired as Head of Finance & IT of the Personal Care Business, having held that position for 13 years from the incubation of the Business till it reached a turnover of over Rs 1000 crores.

Mr. Garg has rich and varied experience in the Finance and Management field and has been in senior management positions across various businesses of ITC.

Mr. Garg has had a distinguished career in ITC, having worked in the Hotels Division for many years, followed by stints in Corporate Finance, Corporate Internal Audit, etc. In his total experience of 35+ years, he has been closely involved with many mergers & acquisitions, including the acquisition of several notable FMCG brands. Mr. Garg has been closely involved in scrutinising business and investment proposals across a variety of businesses and situations in his professional career.

Mr. Garg has an abiding interest in the field of education and is currently the CEO of an Education Trust in Kolkata, which runs two schools in Kolkata. He is also the Vice-President of the Calcutta Management Association, a premier management association which is involved in promoting management education in Kolkata. In addition, he serves on the Finance subcommittee of The Bengal Club, and has served on the General Committee of The Saturday Club Ltd. a few years ago.

Dr. Subhrangshu Sanyal

CEO, IIM Calcutta Innovation Park

Mr. Subhrangshu Sanyal is a startup evangelist and an experienced management professional with a focus on entrepreneurship & innovation. As the Chief Executive Officer of IIM Calcutta Innovation Park, he is actively engaged with the key stakeholders, such as Government, Academia, Corporate, and Investors, in the entrepreneurship domain. He is also involved in creating a strong enabling ecosystem for “the startups with a special focus on East and North East India”. He is also responsible for the incubation activities like sourcing, mentoring, capacity building, and funding of the startups. Mr. Sanyal has rich experience in innovation management, business process re-engineering, and program management. He worked with leading companies in multiple geographies and was involved in end-to-end implementation of large strategic projects for global organizations. He also had a stint with a technology startup. Mr. Sanyal has a strong consulting background with a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) from National Law University, and PGDM from IIM Calcutta.

Mr. Amitabha Datta

Chairman, The Telegraph Education Foundation

Mr. Amitabha Datta serves as Chairman of The Telegraph Education Foundation, bringing over 33 years of distinguished leadership at ABP Group, where he directed business operations for The Telegraph and Anandabazar Patrika. His extensive industry contributions include serving as President of the Advertising Club of Calcutta, member of the Governing Body of the Audit Bureau of Circulation (ABC) and National Readership Survey Council (NRSC), former President of Calcutta Management Association (CMA), member of the National Board of the All India Management Association, and Director at Calcutta Media Institute.

Widely respected for his profound industry insights, Mr. Datta is a sought-after guest faculty at prestigious educational institutions across India. His thought leadership extends to national and international industry forums, where he is recognized as an authoritative speaker on media and management trends.

Ms. Ranjana Gupta

Director, Kantar, South Asia; GBS Alumnus, Batch 2002-04

Ms. Ranjana Gupta, with a twenty-year history of expertise in the market research industry, is currently working as a Director at Kantar South Asia. Previously, she held positions including Executive Vice President and Group Business Director at Kantar, and Insights Director at IMRB International. Ms. Gupta has worked across diverse categories like personal care, tobacco, alcohol, health & nutrition, and e-commerce. An alumnus of Globsyn Business School, her skills include primary and quantitative research, customer insight, and brand equity. She has received accolades such as the Best Paper Award in Wild Card Category at MRSI 2012, and recognition as a WPP Young Star.

Prof. R. C. Bhattacharya

Vice Chairman, Globsyn Group

Prof. Bhattacharya is a Metallurgist by profession and an MBA from Cranfield Business School, UK. He has also completed a programme on ‘Strategic Thinking and Management’ from Wharton Business School, U.S. Prof. Bhattacharya joined Indian Oxygen Ltd. (now BOC India Ltd.) initially as General Manager-Operations and finally rose to the level of Chief Executive, Eastern Region. He was also the Senior Vice President-Marketing, with one of the Aditya Birla Group Companies, before switching over to Academics and Consultancy. He carries more than 30 years of industrial management experience in Operations, Quality Assurance, Marketing, Strategy and General Management. Prof. Bhattacharya has been teaching Marketing, Industrial Marketing, Marketing of Services, Strategic Marketing, Strategic Management, and other topics as a visiting Professor in many renowned business schools. He has been a visiting professor at IIM-Calcutta for about 20 years. He has conducted more than 30 Management Development Programmes and has published and presented a number of papers in India and abroad. He has first-hand experience in Strategic Alliances, Brand Building in Industrial Markets, Corporate Marketing, Relationship Marketing, Loyalty Building, etc. He has been a Consultant in the area of Strategic Management with both national and international assignments.

Mr. Rahul Dasgupta

Director & Trustee, Globsyn Business School

A second generation entrepreneur, with over two decades of global corporate experience, Mr. Rahul Dasgupta, Director and Trustee, Globsyn Business School, and Trustee, Globsyn Knowledge Foundation (GKF), leads the education and vocational training vertical of the Group. An alumnus of Durham Business School, UK, and a graduate of the accelerated development programs from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, India, and Wharton Business School, USA, Mr. Dasgupta heads the marketing, business development, and new strategic initiatives of the Group.

With a passion for education, innovation, and technology in the country, Mr. Dasgupta has contributed significantly to guiding and growing GBS as India’s first ‘Corporate B-School’. Following the footsteps of his father, Mr. Bikram Dasgupta, Founder & Chairman of Globsyn Group, Mr. Dasgupta believes that technology always needs to be supported with knowledge and thereby academics. He stepped into this business a decade back, and has already become instrumental in creating a niche for GBS on the global industry-academia map.

He is the chief architect behind the digitalization of Globsyn’s academic initiatives – from a ‘Brick Model’ to a ‘Click Model – across all organizational verticals. Under Mr. Dasgupta’s stimulating leadership, and in keeping with the needs of the time, GBS has worked tirelessly to become Eastern India’s No. 1 Business School with 3500+ alumni globally. The B-School has forged many global partnerships, integrating various academic practices and high-end technologies into its delivery through these collaborations.

As an avid technophile, Mr. Dasgupta also drove Globsyn Finishing School (GFS) which was started by his father. GFS has trained over 3,50,000 engineering students through the years in various emerging technology tracks like Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Big Data, Internet of Things, Blockchain, Robotic Process Automation, Cloud Computing, Cyber Security, and Augmented Reality among others. GFS annually trains nearly 5,000 engineering graduates from 350+ colleges across India to equip them with the necessary skills to join the Indian IT industry.

During the pandemic, GBS has launched GBS Online – a global platform of digital learning, to create a community of like-minded learners around the world who are able to gain access to online learning resources and complete coursework at their own time, while completing assignments of international standards. GBS Online has already enabled nearly 40,000 minds globally in a short span of time. Mr. Dasgupta’s team plans to digitize the entire curriculum of GBS to make it available to students across the globe through the GBS Online platform, at an affordable cost.

It is his able guidance that has helped GBS stay relevant as a specialized postgraduate education system, remaining ahead of the growth curve in terms of learning and development for the youngsters, with appropriate use of technology, pertinent to the needs of the time.
