Integrated Management for Business Sustainability in a VUCA World

Integrated Management for Business Sustainability in a VUCA World

The theme for this edition of Research Seminar was ‘Integrated Management for Business Sustainability in a VUCA World’ that had been conceptualised to create an inclusive platform with corporate veterans, academicians, entrepreneurs and students, which showed a direction in the role of an integrated management system to go for business sustainability in the VUCA business world.

An Integrated Management System (IMS) integrates all the systems and procedures of an organization into one full structure, allowing an organization to function as a single unit with consolidated goals.

In an environment, which is overwhelmingly influenced by VUCA (Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity & Ambiguity), it becomes essential for organizations not only to navigate but also to manage their strategies to survive first and then grow. Organizations that view and exploit the opportunities and possibilities for change through IMS in the VUCA market conditions will not merely endure, but also successfully compete and grow in the face of the range of emerging adverse and hyper-competitive business conditions.

In today’s world, the organizational complexities are heightened by rapid change in the demographic profile, the dynamics of customers’ liking and disliking, rapid digitalization and innovation with a constraint of expeditious enculturation, verticalization of the organizations, rapid advancement in technology and disruption of the traditional financial status of the large organizations. Newer elements that were otherwise not contingent on the traditional management system are constantly disturbing the business acumen, thereby creating a big challenge before the organizational leadership strategies. Therefore, it becomes a challenge for the top leaders of organizations to explore newer ideas for sustainability and growth in the tumultuous situation. At this crucial juncture of business, the industry and academia cannot ignore the role of IMS in combating the VUCA world in various ways. The organizations can use the framework as customer-driven by tapping unfulfilled customer needs, innovation-driven by investing in research and development and competitor-driven, by closely pursuing competitive strategies.
