Today we present to you the story of Shabbir Akhtar, Assistant General Manager – Corporate Marketing & Technology Adoption, Globsyn Business School, as he completes his 11th work anniversary at Globsyn.

In October 2012, I found myself seated across Mr. Bikram Dasgupta, the esteemed Founder and Chairman of Globsyn Group. As I faced him, I couldn’t help but sense the scepticism lingering in the air about my commitment. After all, my track record up to that point had shown a penchant for short stints and transient roles.

Fast forward to today, and here I am, 11 years later and hopefully wiser, still proudly part of the Globsyn family. Having embarked on this journey on April 1, 2013, I’ve traversed a path from a Management Trainee to heading a department, and leading several initiatives within the Group. It’s a journey marked by growth, challenges, and self-discovery.

I was reflecting on my journey of these 11 years, and here are the top 11 reasons that motivated my steadfast loyalty to Globsyn.

  • Passion Meets Profession: At Globsyn, work isn’t merely a chore; it’s a passion pursuit. Each day presents an opportunity to inch closer to my aspirations, fuelled by genuine enthusiasm for what I do. I delve into areas like content, creatives, and communication, aligning my passion with my profession.
  • Empowered Autonomy: Steering my budget and department feels akin to captaining a start-up ship, free from suffocating micromanagement. The autonomy granted here fosters creativity, innovation, and a sense of ownership.
  • Endorsement of Growth: Globsyn’s leadership believes in nurturing talent. Whenever I’ve expressed a desire for more responsibilities, they’ve readily entrusted me, providing avenues for professional growth and development.
  • Embracing Failure: Here at Globsyn, mistakes aren’t viewed as setbacks but rather celebrated as opportunities for learning and personal growth. The culture encourages experimentation, resilience, and a mindset geared toward continuous improvement. Through trial and error, I’ve honed my skills and expanded my capabilities.
  • Dynamic Exposure: Through involvement in projects spanning various Group companies and foundations, stagnancy becomes a foreign concept. Each endeavour presents a chance to broaden horizons, acquire new skills, and adapt to evolving landscapes. From Globsyn Skills to Globsyn Business School, from Globsyn Infotech to BDG Foundation my journey has been dynamic.
  • Proximity to Leadership: Direct engagement with the management team offers unparalleled insights into strategic decision-making processes. This proximity has rewarded me with invaluable lessons in leadership, vision, and organizational dynamics. Learning from visionaries like Mr. Bikram Dasgupta, Mr. Rahul Dasgupta, and Mr. Romit Dasgupta has been instrumental in my growth.
  • Culture of Collaboration: Suggestions are not only welcomed but actively sought and implemented, fostering a culture of inclusivity and innovation. Collaboration thrives in an environment where every voice is heard and respected irrespective of hierarchy. From brand campaigns to technology adoptions, from event designs to employee policies, my suggestions have not only been heard but implemented.
  • Life Beyond Work: Globsyn places a premium on work-life balance, recognizing that holistic well-being is essential for sustained productivity and fulfilment. The organization actively encourages exploration of interests beyond the confines of the workplace. During the pandemic, the flexibility to pursue my Masters in Singapore and working remotely from there exemplified this commitment.

I started my career in Globsyn as a Management Trainee and today I hold the position of Assistant General Manager – a journey, which is only possible when the organization believes in the growth of its people.

This sense of camaraderie and shared purpose makes Globsyn not just a workplace, but my second home.

As I reflect on my journey, I’m filled with immense gratitude for the opportunities, learnings, and camaraderie that Globsyn has offered me over the past 11 years. Here’s to many more years of shared success, growth, and meaningful contributions!
