Swatantrata Ki Roshni: A Day of Resilience and Joy

swatantrata ki roshni

This year, I had the privilege of being a part of Globsyn Business School’s celebration of India’s 78th Independence Day, where we honored the occasion with the visually impaired students of Lighthouse for the Blind School. As part of our “Care for Society” project, we presented a cultural performance titled “Swatantrata ki Roshni,” an initiative that, for me, truly embodied the spirit of Independence. It was not just a celebration, but also a meaningful connection with individuals whose resilience inspired me deeply.

I believe, projects like these are vital when considering our role in caring for society. As future managers and responsible individuals, it is crucial to understand that business and society are deeply intertwined. This Independence Day project was particularly significant because it underscored how those who may not fully experience independence, due to the lack of one of their senses, can still embrace and enjoy its essence. The experience provided me with a profound perspective on the resilience and spirit of these individuals, reinforcing the importance of initiatives that bridge business and social responsibility.

Despite the challenges, such as having only three days to rehearse due to online classes and the induction program for first-year students, our hard work and determination paid off, and the event was a success. The day began under a bright sky, with roads filled with students parading, singing patriotic songs, and waving the national flag with pride and joy.

Upon arriving at the venue, we immediately set to work with the support of our dedicated faculty mentors. Our first task was to decorate the hall, creating a well-organized and welcoming environment. We then organized the students from the blind school into two lines to commence the event with a parade. The highlight of the ceremony was the hoisting of the National Flag, led by Mr. Debasish Kumar, M.L.A. Govt. of West Bengal, alongside the principals of Globsyn Business School and Lighthouse for the Blind. This was followed by the National Anthem, sung in unison by the students, teachers, and our fellow students from Globsyn.

The event continued with an inspiring speech from our principal, which took us down memory lane and set the stage for a series of cultural performances. The visually impaired students displayed their incredible talents in singing, recitation, and playing the synthesizer, which was both moving and uplifting. Our friends followed with performances of songs, recitations, and short plays that captivated the audience. I had the honor of co-hosting the event with my friend Lovely Dutta, ensuring the program ran smoothly and that the audience remained engaged. Seeing the joy on the children’s faces as they enjoyed the performances was the most rewarding part of the day. We concluded the cultural program with the song “Muktiro Mandiro,” led by my friend Anit Dhar and his singing team, encouraging everyone to join in. The event ended on a sweet note with the distribution of food packets and chocolates to the students.

As management students, we applied key skills such as team management, time management, resource allocation, and strategic planning to bring this event to life. Working closely with our faculty mentors and with strong support from non-teaching staff, we ensured that every detail was carefully planned and executed. Our ability to manage the team, allocate resources effectively, and plan strategically allowed us to overcome the challenges and ultimately bring smiles to the children’s faces, making the event a resounding success.

I am immensely grateful to Globsyn Business School for this opportunity, which taught me that visually impaired individuals could achieve everything that sighted people can – with confidence and ambition. Spending the day with them was a gift, deepening my understanding of the principles behind KYLF events. This “Beyond Education” initiative not only allowed me to contribute to society but also helped me grow as a compassionate manager and a better human being.
